About Barnardo's
Barnardo's is one of the leading children's charities and works directly with over 100,000 children, young people and their families every year.
This project is raising funds to build an IT suite at our Hub Centre in Tower Hamlets, one of the poorest parts of London. Launched in 2008, the Hub gives a helping hand to 16 to 19 year olds who aren't in employment, education or training. Help provided includes support in literacy and numeracy and an opportunity to achieve industrially recognised qualifications. The IT Suite will help young people further develop their skills and training.
Engaging with education is one of the best ways for children to overcome the challenges associated with disability, disadvantage and growing up in dysfunctional homes.
Barnardo's understands the needs of young people who, for various reasons, are unable to fulfil their full potential through mainstream education. The Hub transforms lives. Thank you for supporting its continued development.
Education facts
- Children living in poverty are half as likely to get five good grades at GCSE as other children.
- Children in care are nearly five times less likely to obtain five or more good grades at GCSE than other children.
- Children with special educational needs (SEN) are over nine times more likely to be permanently excluded from school than others.
About Gordon Yates
Gordon Yates is London's longest established name for skilled staff recruitment. Its training division is a leading provider of career support for professional people and corporate training for London companies.
The recession has had a disproportionate impact on young job seekers - at Gordon Yates it feels as though we are on the front line of this in both our recruiting and training businesses.
We really believe in what Barnardo's is doing at the Hub Centre. Help us support it.
